I would like to introduce myself as the Southwestern MNCYN’s Paediatric Nurse Consultant. I have been a paediatric nurse for 18 years, both in Canada and the United States. The majority of my career I have spent caring for critically ill and injured infants and children, along with their families, both at London Health Sciences Centre and McMaster Children’s Hospital. I have seen some of the most perplexing illnesses and witnessed sadness and tragedy beyond what most nurses will see during their entire careers. I have also experienced something amazing; the strength and courage children have when faced with adversity. Children rally, they fight and they inspire those who care for them each and every day.
My goal as the Paeds Nurse Consultant isn’t to relive the stories which have already been written or to teach others what is likely already known. My goal is simple; to partner with nurses and healthcare professionals to keep care closer to home. Paediatric nursing is about compassion, critical thinking, instinct, grit and kindness. The latest cardiac monitor or most elaborate crash cart is not necessary to provide exemplary paediatric care….you already do this. This I am confident about and my role will be to ensure you are just as confident in knowing this too!
The MNCYN is a partnership of hospitals and alliances, Public Health Units and the South West CCAC, encompassing many healthcare organizations who provide care for paediatric patients in our region. Together, we can share knowledge, resources and best-practice guidelines, strengthening this partnership, not just to the Network itself, but between each of our regional partners. I will facilitate this link and together we can improve paediatric healthcare across Southwestern Ontario!
